good-bye, 2005
i'm not going to bother digging out last year's post for 2005 resolutions, since i guess half of them are probably not fulfilled anyway, and will only lead to greater frustration (the first thing that came to my mind - i've lost zilch amount of weight, and probably added on a couple instead. conclusion: working makes you fat). just a short round-up for the year:
i ended our 7.5 years long courtship earlier this year. although we hardly meet or chat these days, i'm glad we remained as friends, something i've always believed in very strongly. i've always know it that you have influenced me in many ways - you made me less afraid to speak up for myself and gave me greater confidence. everybody who knows you would probably agree that you have one of the world's sweetest temper, i thank you for tolerating and giving in to me in the past (but in the process, you probably made me more egotistic!). i remembered saying this, and i would like say it again... to me, our relationship was never rubbish, never a waste of time. i wish you all the best in the coming new year - more cover stories (when are you reaching your 1000th article?), more television appearances, more fun working trips, and lots of fun clubbing and partying.
i now have a brighter and cleaner house to host parties! tonight we're having a potluck for new year's eve and i've decided to make baked penne, potato salad and pound cake with rum topping. (bimbo thought: all this cooking and washing is definitely going to ruin my opi maine-iac mauve manicure, anybody wishes to volunteer to be the dish-washing missy for the day? xp?) oh yes, anyway i'm pretty pleased as to how my room turned out, especially the fact that there's finally enough space to organise my clothes. btw, who knows where to find a relatively affordable (no more than S$200) coffee table, walnut brown with anodised aluminium legs? that's the only piece of furniture i'm lacking, and i'm determined to get it before CNY before mum's nagging starts ringing in my ears again.
a couple of things which i've picked up this year - I CAN DRIVE! in less than a month's time, i can officially choose not to put up that silly distracting yellow triangle in my windscreen. after much persuasion, i also picked up CYCLING! ermmm, to be exact, i only managed to balance myself on a bicycle over several metres. i actually promised to practise diligently and master it by this year, oh well, it's always good to keep some objectives to achieve in the coming year, haha. i have the ever-so-patient ig to thank, for constantly bugging and pushing me to drive/cycle - plus i think i'm quite lazy/lousy a student, eh? ;) (very hopefully) in 2006, i should be able to cycle well and over long distances, maybe try my hand at in-line skating and run my first 10km mini-marathon. this sounds good, doesn't it?
time and tide waits for no man, let's embrace the coming of year 2006 (damn, i'm reaching my mid-twenties already).

merry christmas!
what a great christmas day spent with all my dearest buddies. summarising what was mentioned in our whole chain of e-mail exchanges - thanks for all the sweet messages in your cards, it was so heart-warming... and all the desserts, jack's sticky date pudding with toffee syrup was perfect and as for the ice-cream, i'd still prefer chocolate and cookies and cream gelato to lime sherbert anytime (give up, guys...)!

was totally knocked out in the afternoon, so i ended up resting at home instead.
feeling a little bored, i brought out my baking ingredients and made two batches of chocolate chip walnut cookies, this bottle decorated simply with a golden bow ribbon will come in handy for mark and pauline's house warming party tomorrow. i wonder if i can get WHITE chocolate chips in time to try making white chocolate and cranberry cookies for sunday, they'll look so pretty for christmas!

i'm back from my 2D/2N work trip, and i've never felt better about stepping on solid hard singapore soil. despite the monsoon season, the sea state wasn't as bad as expected and i actually managed without popping any of my motion sickness pills, afraid that it would make me too drowsy. the food onboard was relatively good, i was in fact pretty impressed with the nasi brani with mutton curry/kambeng soup dinner after having this strange-tasting wasabi vegetables for lunch (wasabi was suspected to be added in to mask certain chemical/bitter taste). on the whole, i still hate the feeling of being cooped up in a confined area and being on an UNSTABLE platform, and i seriously hope there isn't going to be a second time, to go onboard a place where toilets are known as heads. now, even superliner star cruise doesn't excite me.
anyway, it's time to catch up on some sleep (less than 4 hours the previous night!) and then it's off to goodwood park hotel high-tea for my office christmas celebration! and gross it may sound, my respiratory tract is still clogged up with phlegm despite completing my entire antibiotics course, damn.

What does your handwriting say about YOU?
The results of your analysis say:
You plan ahead, and are interested in beauty, design, outward appearance, and symmetry.
You are a shy, idealistic person who does not find it easy to have relationships, especially intimate ones.
You are diplomatic, objective, and live in the present.
You are not very reserved, impatient, self-confident and fond of action.
You enjoy life in your own way and do not depend on the opinions of others.
what an eventful weekend! parents are now holidaying in hainan island, china. it's going to be a long two-week trip for them, and they're spending the second week in the village. that's the whole reason why they had EIGHT bags to bring over, most of them filled with old wearable clothes and freshly ground coffee powder which they wish to give away to the villagers (actually, i still don't get why they like our local coffee powder). anyway, because of limited boot space, we had to drive two cars to the airport on saturday, and guess what, i ended up driving myself home ALONE! first time i drove alone with ZERO GUIDANCE, and it was a pretty long ride too. my dad was pleasantly surprised that i could manage u-turns easily and was composed throughout the ride to the airport - obviously he doesn't know his daughter enjoys the thrill of speed, and often exceeds the speed limit on expressways. :P
saturday evening was spent at catherine's place for dinner buffet to celebrate her wedding and then late-night movie in town (give aeon flux a miss unless you're a huge charlize theron fan, i almost dozed off on several occasions). met up with my primary school mates on sunday evening at bakerzin at paragon, it's a yearly ritual where we meet to catch up, we bitched about our jobs, pregnant lady colleague and their maternity leave and medical appointment privileges, boyfriends, and why wedding bells are starting to ring for girls in our batch, making us feel super damn old. anyway, i do count myself alot more fortunate than the rest since my place has minimal office politics (and few pregnant folks), i'm surprised even the two doctors suffer from that, and what's more the girls working in the finance industry. such rare company teamed with delectable food - sauteed mushroom/spinach/poached egg served with toasted bread (good choice: it tasted as good as it looked in the menu) and the most divine chocolate amer, strawberry shortcake and walnut cheesecake! oh yes, i received a gg<5 beige tote during the gift exchange, nice. :)
shall let the pictures do the rest of the talking......
anyway, i just checked my e-mail and herman's snowing pictures from uk got me really excited! pretty sight, isn't it?

ear candling - i did it!
excess wax build-up - yups that's me, but not any more! i went for my first ear candling session this evening at j's salon, and the approximately 40-minute session also includes a shoulder and face drainage massage, absolutely non painful, but rather, very soothing and relaxing. it was actually a pretty last minute decision to finally book an appointment, but after all, this was already super long overdue, still remembered i wanted to go for it even before my amsterdam trip (which was in june), for fear my ears will get blocked during the trip (since it did happen after my swim at bintan last year, and it's such an irritating feeling having to endure with impaired hearing while on holiday).
anyway, this is how ear candling actually works: it makes use of a hollow candle with the narrow end that is placed snugly into the ear, and the other end is the one you light. the burning of the candle creates a gentle vacuum that can soften and dislodge wax and debris and and draw them out of the ear into the hollow candle. after the procedure, a powedery substance is left in the stub of the candle - the therapist did cut open the two burnt candles for me and it's amazing to see and satisfying to know that my ears are now cleared! woohoo.

a company e-mail was sent out recently to enforce the rule on the BAN of all cameras and CAMERA HANDPHONES. not that i'm badly affected, since i'm still surviving on a cranky nokia 8310 ever since my ericsson dropped into the toilet bowl, harharhar (btw, that's a camera phone). anxiously waiting for my contract to expire (which only happens to be my birthday next year), so that i can officially convert the line to be under my name, instead of still having my dad pay for my handphone bill *ahem*. and cameras are also disallowed, damn! i don't know how i'm going to smuggle my precious lumix in, since i bring it almost everywhere i go.
anyway, amazingly, there are still a few decent non-camera handphones in the market, and i'm probably going back to nokia, they're still the champions when it comes to speed sms-ing.
nokia 6060 (if i recall correctly, it's about $200)
nokia 6030 (currently FOC if you upgrade or sign on a new contract!)

chestnuts? gao lat?
chestnuts was a great show, indeed - probably the one that made me laughed the hardest and also the loudest this year, and it's definitely way better than the dollies. it displayed excellent chemistry between the two very talented actors, hossan leong is really a natural comedian. many of the spoofs were very creativitely done (nothing's perfect, there were still some lame ones, hah), and i salute the creator's wit and seamless effort piecing the different segments all in this 2-hour show. although it was largely associated with star wars, which i know absolutely nuts about, i still managed to catch most of the humour. i particularly enjoyed 'the maid' segment and the news interview which shares various points of view of local government policies... but note the adult themes and the crude/offensive language though, certainly not for the faint-hearted! :P the show runs till next sunday, so catch it if you can! oh yeah, it was also my first time at the victorian-styled jubilee hall, there's this colonial ambience about the place that makes it very different from the modern esplanade theatre, great experience. :)

hmmm, one week late! pictures from last sunday. :) that evening we were supposed to have the extremely belated birtday dinner with D (and the present is still rotting somewhere) but that guy was suddenly down with flu (i think so). took pictures along the usual stretch of orchard - wisma/paragon/taka with a motorolla christmas tree along the way too. the takashimaya tree this year was disappointing yet again, non-coordinated multi-coloured glass balls, but what's stopping us? harhar. *snap* come to think of it, we managed to keep this traditional even after nine years, and you mean we actually have been keeping EIGHT YEARS worth of christmas photos, maybe we should line up all the photos to see how they recycle the use of the taka tree, they just better not reuse that ugly white one - with blue balls, i still remember.
