HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
well, i couldn't remember if i made new year resolutions at the same time last year, gosh, of what use are these resolutions if i don't even remember if i've made them! i think i probably gave up knowing they're likely to be empty promises, maybe i'll feel less guilty not having any! hehe.
whenever people wish you a happy new year, they are bound to ask how 2007 have been, and what your hopes for 2008 are. 2007 has been an extremely busy year at work, having to shoulder greater responsibilities and provide guidance to the juniors. i was also made to travel alot more for work this year (twice to sweden, US, then italy&germany), somehow as much as i'm grateful for the opportunity to be able to visit so many new countries, i never look forward to travelling without my beloved one. speaking of him, an sms today told me that we need to treasure the love given to us, and i totally agree with him. it has been an awesome year for both of us, his proposal on 31 oct probably changed how 2008 would be like for us - BUSY with wedding preparations! and i'll no longer be single the same time next year! it's hard to believe how time flies, it'll take a while to come to terms with reality and realise we are no longer the students we used to be.
no specific new year resolutions, but broadly:
1) work - constantly remember what my priority is, provide more guidance and learn to be more patient!
2) relationship - to be more accomodating and learn to live with others (well, the bf beside me said my resolution should be to be a pretty bride...errr, bimbo man)
3) sports - step up on running, no more slacking!
btw, some pictures we took yesterday at orchard paragon and HMV.

the last christmas party of 2007
it came slightly late, but nevertheless, still fun! this time round, it was a potluck party, and everything tasted great! yum!
the food - siu yee prepared the starter, which was pate spread with biscuits; pauline was "arrowed" to prepare potato salad, it's refreshing having green apples and raisins instead of the usual bacon bits, err... slightly healthier too; wendy&giles brought along spaghetti bolognese, i like the sauce (very generous with the beef and sausages!); my mum helped with the roasted chickens, we had almost nothing to do with it (oh yes, it was supposed to be turkey but the stores ran out of small-sized turkeys, but chickens are probably more economical... haha, and more tender of course), and lastly, i made the tiramisu (!), glad it turned out edible... but i think it can do better with a stronger flavour of rum and stronger espresso. btw, the recipe is taken from williams-sonoma, and can be found here. [changes made: i only used 250gm of mascarpone cheese, 5 egg yolks, 1/2 cup sugr, and added extra rum to the coffee.]
we made everybody put on reindeer hairbands and santa hats for the party (of course, some were more cooperative than the others :P)... even the two babies took turns to put on the baby-sized santa hat, so cute huh! and it's a good thing mikel didn't sleep through the party! after the food, we did our presents exchange - i received a lovely belt from lexin, too bad she & ben couldn't join us... and to my dearest, now you know this belt does NOT come with the pants, so don't keep asking! :P the bf got a pair of billabong slippers from pauline (don't worry, it fits perfectly and it's not gay lah...).
a group picture with all our presents.

i love christmas lights!
subway roasted beef sandwich, alvin & chipmunks, amk hub - that basically summed up what we did on christmas eve! btw, the chipmunks were cute! those who know me will know it takes some effort to keep me awake during a movie, what more a midnight show. we exchanged our presents at home, and the funny part is we both got forever friends christmas cards for each other (well, they do make one of the sweetest cards)! well, we set a present budget of $50 this year ('cos it's time to be more frugal for the sake of the wedding fund), but both of us exceeded it (slightly)... haha. i received a pair of white pearl stud earrings to wear for work meetings, my flashy dangle ones just won't do. i kind of casually requested for it, 'cos there really isn't anything i want/need... the bf is right, i really don't need another yoga mat. and he received cufflinks from me... a pretty minimalist yet stylist pair, and an album consisting of the our prettiest photos taken this year.
featuring "the secret life of peter", a spider-man themed necklace - a present from lion! it's so cute i had to put it on almost immediately, hehe. thank you, girl, so sweet of you! :-)
we took christmas photos after our dinner at suntec city's imperial treasure, all we had in this area of town was this tall and heavily lighted christmas tree outside raffles city. it's a HUGE surprise to have jack back to spend christmas with us this year, although he left only in july, it really feels like a long time... it's a pity he'll still be stuck in UK next year during our wedding, hmmm, maybe they'll decide to shut down the office to let their staff enjoy their white christmas and that there will be a megasale selling dirt-cheap budget airline tickets back to singapore? :P

bbq party
these are with my office colleagues - and gosh, of all in the pictures, i think i'm the oldest in terms of seniority, no not i think, I AM!!! but not the oldest in terms of age, thank god! it seemed like just yesterday that i joined the company, and every year when the new batch of engineers come in, it only makes me feel i'm getting OLD. as usual, i brought along potato salad since it's like the simplest party food to make. they purchased the bbq stuff through a caterer who supplied basically everything required, from the fire starters to the wire mesh, and of course, the wide variety of food which was surprisingly good too. gone are the days we wash and marinate chicken wings at chalet basins... come to think of it, i think we even used pails before we started buying aluminium trays, eeeeeks. :S

christmas steamboat party
well, we're thankful we couldn't get the barbecue pit at west coast park! steamboat was obviously a better alternative on a rainy saturday evening, if not, we would be the ones taking shelter in the rain with the trays of raw food and then lugging them them all the way back home to fry.
here are the picturs taken last saturday at my place - red and gold are obviously the colour theme for the presents this year, and a big thank you to my santa! what a thoughtful gift - a sequinned evening bag (i don't dress like a tai-tai, so this is reserved specially for wedding dinners, i'm sure i'll be attending more next year!) and an additional tissue holder. thank you for all the christmas cards, i think we're the few people left in this world that still send greetings the traditional way. in fact, i think e-cards are passe, surfing for bluemountain e-cards was what i did perhaps ten years back? one fine day, i should really sort out the cards we gave each other since school days (btw, they're all nicely packed in old jigsaw boxes), that should be pretty nostalgic, heh. oh yes, how can i forget the very pretty christmas card from xp! i have to display your masterpiece here, it's so nicely made, you got to tell me where you get these stickers... and thanks for the chocolates!

christmas wishlist
to make things easier for my santas...!
1. shu uemura/clinique pink-toned blusher
2. running/gym singlet (size M)
3. necklaces and earrings (you can get ideas from oriental rose and bellee beadz)
4. funky bangles (i haven't been wearing these, but i don't mind starting again)
5. scarves that can be worn as sash belts
6. any kind of dressy slippers in either black/white/gold (size 38 is ok, but 39 would be better, i prefer my slippers slightly bigger)
okay, i think i'm making it too easy! and notice all are bimbotic stuff... i guess it's not so fun receiving extremely practical gifts, an element of surprise is still important at least for me. now i've got to crack my brains for my santees!

weddings
i attended two wedding dinners the past week.
this picture was taken at thomas&eunice's wedding at orchard parade hotel by jamyz. if you go into his blog, you'll realise that he's really quite a talent! what was special was the bf was the emcee for the night! that was his first time, and naturally he was rather nervous prior to going on stage... thankfully he managed to hide it pretty well and became quite a natural towards the end. of course, he had his experienced chinese emcee partner to thank for that as well. :-) it was a rather cosy event, they had about 20+ tables, i believe the food was catered from tung lok's club chinois, so the standard was there, and the couple made it simple by only giving a brief thank-you speech at the end, no photo montage or videoshow. we were seated with his ex-colleagues (largely), after hearing so much about some of them, i finally got to meet them in person, and now i know why they got so much to talk about during tea-breaks, hehe.
these were taken at meta's wedding at four seasons hotel. it was slightly more elaborate than the norm, and i bet the bride put in alot of effort in the preparations. the food and service at four seasons was excellent, it has a terrific ballroom (pillarless and high-ceiling), she even engaged a live band and had a chocolate fondue fountain for the reception (although i saw it only later and didn't get to try). i had a good time catching up with my NUS classmates - gosh, the last time we met was also at a wedding, we really need to organise more class gatherings before they start taking place only at wedding events. oh and i must say meta was indeed ravishing that evening, and coupled with her sweet temper and gentleness (although we're exactly close friends, she'll probably top my list of sweet/gentle ladies), all i can say is her husband is really a lucky man!
