new makan places
eh, all my recent posts are all about the bf's birthday and all the makan sessions we had... okay, this shall be the LAST one. last saturday, we went to rider's cafe for dinner - it was by chance that i found out about this place, it's really out of the way at the bukit timah saddle club, along fairways avenue (somewhere near the turf club). they serve the usual western dishes, but i was kind of disappointed the sandwiches were not available for dinner and chose a pasta instead. although the main course and pasta selection wasn't that fantastic, the death by chocolate cake with vanilla ice-cream was good! oops, i just realised i forgot to include the picture (anyway, it looked like a black blob with a scoop of white in the photo, far from being appetising). well, seriously just by looking at it, you can develop a sore throat - the chocolate fudge is really that rich! anyway, i may just decide to visit this place again, but next time round probably for a nice brunch and hopefully i can get to see the horses trotting by.
we ended the night with some drinks at moon ladder bar & bistro at labrador park, quite a cool chill-out place, where you can relax and chit-chat under the dazzling stars. i've only been to labrador park once before this, and it was in secondary 3 (or was it 4?) for a biology project of some sort... where we had to search for seashore creatures hidden under rocks, and i still remember the mangroves.
oh yeah, almost forgot - the group gave the birthday boy the nike free running shoes he has been wanting to buy! no more excuses, it's time to start jogging! xp, thanks for buying the present! got to thank MMS technology in order to get the right pair, you can't count on me to give good descriptions, haha!
oh yah, i didn't announce this earlier! i just celebrated my 4th anniversary at work - i'm certified bond-free on 27th june 2008. :-)

his birthday in batam
it was just a short one night stay... totally enjoyed the 3-hour spa, it was so comfortable i dozed off during the massage session. and come to think of it, we should have given the two masseurs a tip although all charges were already paid upfront. anyway, this trip we were quite pose-y, especially while waiting for the bus to go to nagoya hill shoppping mall (you MUST buy the toiletries! dirt-cheap!), and the following day at the pool (it took us many rounds to get that picture right, btw) - i guess we had to self-entertain each other abit, since there weren't much we could do over there. it was a simple trip, and something different from the usual fancy birthday dinners - hope you enjoyed yourself as much as i did, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, my love! :-)

orange = salmon, orange = holland
oh we're back from batam! finally had the chance to download all the photos we took the past couple of days. the birthday boy requested for salmon sashimi eat-all-you-could buffet, so we decided to try out hanabi (instead of the usual ikoi). however, the service was really disappointing that evening - our tea/wasabi/extra chopsticks required serveral prompters before they were served, the food took quite a while especially at the start (when we were starving!), and the some of the service staff weren't well-versed in english. well, but whatever it is, i think the birthday boy enjoyed his salmon sashimi - no more of that for the next one month!
anyway, here are the pics! the present was a holland jersey - thanks to mark ge who bought it! aiya, it's really anti-climax when holland lost the following morning... oops, i shall not mention again. :-P anyway, surprisingly we still had space for dessert, and holland village haagen-dazs nearby seemed like the best choice. ahhhh, i finally had my chocolate fondue, the pound cake and cookies dipped in rich chocolate sauce was to-die-for!!!

care for a piece of steak?
well, it wasn't really that difficult for me to pick a dinner place this year. last year we both agreed to go to outback for our steak since we were abit tight on our budget, and anyway i was on course and couldn't apply for leave (oh this is another long sad story so i'll not dwell too much into the details). not that we aren't tight on budget this year (should be much worse with the wedding expenses!), but... lawry's could have replaced lake kawaguchi as THE proposal venue, it's the last courtship anniversary, lawry's prime ribs are highly raved about, and anyway it's still cheaper than morton's - oh well, there are just enough excuses, so why not!? anyway, it was still a surprise for him until we got out of the car in orchard, the silly bf actually believed that i did not make dinner plans.
oh oh oh, guess what's in the envelope? other than an extremely lengthy card message, it was his birthday gift in advance - a 2D/1N stay in harris resort batam on his birthday itself, inclusive of a 3-hour spa (body scrub, body massage, herbal and milk bath)!!! i need a good back rub!

double celebration
happy father's day!!!... plus advance celebration for the bf! (eh, 31 years old, so old! :-P) all thanks to mummy for the lunch menu - i did nothing but helped to eat (oops). and we realised that SIL is no fan of blackforest cakes, so i guess it has to be chocolate fudge cakes from now onwards - awfully choc, lana's & jane's!

pauline's birthday
pauline, happy birthday in advance! shall type this post while waiting for my pan-fried salmon to be ready (parents are away for holiday in korea, so dinner's on my own from today onwards for the rest of the week). yesterday evening, we had steamboat buffet dinner at copthorne orchid hotel - all these bingeing is not doing the waistline any good, especially with the photoshoot coming next month (but oh well, there's always photoshop, and i trust JL is an expert at that! haha!). the two sets of parents brought along their little boys as usual, and they've grown cuter than ever - seth's cheeks are all cleared up now, and mikel's so much more active and smiley these days (no more sleepyhead, which is probably bad news for the liews). well, food wasn't too bad, except for the tom yam soup (it was terrible), they also had a small selection of cooked food and desserts - the chicken satay and ice-cream were probably the favourites that night.
oh yeah, as for the present, hope the birthday gal like the colourful tote bag, we were searching for something at novena square and i chanced upon that when i was just about to give up! i was just telling the bf that it's so me, i hope it's big enough for all of mikel's barang-barang, if not it's also suitable for dress-down fridays! :-)
btw, as i finish this post, i've also finished up my pan-fried salmon with rice... *full* now time to wash up!
