it's incredible how fast they grow
well, although i'm supposed to be working on a report this weekend, i decided that updating my blog comes first, haa! (well, actually i can concentrate on work better when ashley sleeps for the night - for info, she's taking her afternoon nap now.) anyway, the reason for the title of this post - as you can see below, ashley got her first chance at sitting on the high chair while we had lunch at bbq chicken! she has already been sitting in one at home for quite some time, i think the chairs outside (typically from ikea) requires her to support herself more, and she had no problems at all. she was busy reaching for everything that caught her sight - plates&cutlery were obviously no-no, so we had to give her her rattle, and when she dropped it on the floor (as expected!), she grabbed the serviettes! oh and of course, if you see the second pic taken yesterday, ashley was in a kneeling position and grabbing onto the cot. she has been doing this quite often by looking for support, basically anything that's most convenient at that time, e.g. daddy/mummy, gong-gong/po-po, pillows, her cot, and toys. oh, by the way, i spotted her sitting upright by the cot this morning, and another time on the mat... i wasn't sure if she could do it earlier 'cos she was always half-way there then distracted by her toys, but now i'm definite that she is able to sit up by herself now. little girl, another milestone clocked! :-)
(1-2) our lunch sets... better than KFC! definitely less oily. the roasted chicken was also very tasty.
(3) from BBQ chicken!
(4) ashley in the ikea high chair, looking a tad blur. i realised it's difficult to snap pictures of her smiling/laughing these days, 'cos that's also when she's very excited and keeps moving... and all the pictures turn out blur.
(5) yummy yummy, where's my food?
(6) mummy & little girl.
(7) ah huh, i got it!
(8) i know what's this for... to wipe my hands! (clever girl!)
my prisoner baby...! let's see how long she takes to progress to standing up in her cot. we've already lowered the cot in preparation of that. :-)
btw, ashley went for her check last wednesday and she's now 8.59kg (90 percentile) and 66.5cm (75 percentile) - "growing very well!", according to the nurse.

first solids
ashley had her first solids yesterday! in fact, this is the first time (well, almost) she tasted anything other than MILK - she doesn't take water very well, and rejects it most of the time. anyway, if you read the previous post, you'll know that healthy times brown rice cereal is sold out everywhere currently - this box was actually given a colleague by of mine recently - thanks YP! :-) and ashley likes it! at least she opened her mouth when she saw the spoon coming.
following the instructions, i mixed two tablespoons of the cereals (by the way, don't do this under the fan as it's really light and flaky) with about 20ml of breastmilk, and tadah - ashley's brunch is ready! it's too simple to prepare - now i know why most mums these days don't make their own rice cereals. i didn't taste it but it did smell pretty fragrant (somewhat like horlicks). also, it was not as messy as i had expected it to be, merely dirtied a bib and washcloth, and i didn't even have to clean the floor/furniture, or put her through another bath.
anyway, my traditional mum still prefers to feed her grandchild with homemade porridge, not these instant 'ang moh' kind of food. she claims that both my brother and i were fed porridge before 6 months and both love it... so uh huh, can't argue with the main caregiver. ashley will be starting on porridge VERY SOON, stay tuned!
